2,000 people benefit from free eye treatment in Benue

Makurdi, – Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) Executive Chairman, Ms. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi has sponsored the treatment of 2000 patients suffering from various cases of eye problems to mark her anniversary celebration.

This was contained in a statement signed by his media assistant, Mr. Jacob Suswam on Monday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Makurdi.

According to the statement, the Patricia Nyion Adzape Foundation, owned by the Chief Revenue Officer, carried out the medical outreach in Turan and Ikyurav-ya, all in Kwande local government area in Benu.

The statement further states that more than 2,000 people received free eye treatment, 100 people received free treatment of Herniorrhaphy, Hydrocelotomy and Lipectomy during the 2 days of outreach.

According to the statement, the two days of medical awareness were organized by some donors who benefited from the educational support of the late Patricia Nyion Adzape, mother of Mrs. Orubibi, during her lifetime.

The sensitization started on November 18 in Jato-Aka for the Turan people and on the 19th for the Ikyurav-ya people.

Other eye cases in the two complicated areas were recommended for surgery by the team of medical experts, to whom Mrs. Orubibi promised to ensure that the surgeries were carried out.

Likewise, more than 100 cases of herniorrhaphy, hydroceletomy and lipectomy, observed to be common among the population, were treated and surgical interventions were performed.

The donors, in a message to Mrs. Adzape-Orubibi, acknowledged the enormous sacrifices made by the late Patricia Nyion Adzape, to ensure that they acquire a sound education and pledged to keep her legacy alive by also supporting the others.

They praised Ms. Orubibi for following in her late mother’s footsteps by always helping the needy and oppressed and establishing the foundation in honor of her mother.

Speaking at the start of the medical outreach in Jato-Aka, Orubibi said she agreed to have the outreach held on her birthday this year, to help her people overcome some of their medical challenges, instead of celebrate with joy in the city.

She praised the outreach sponsors for honoring her so well and appreciated the team of medical experts, led by Dr. Tongriang Ben-Ameh, for providing free services to the people.

The President further added that the medical outreach had no political sentiment but just a gesture imitated by his late mother, whose passion was to help the less privileged around her, and on whose behalf the foundation was registered to keep his legacy alive.

She emphasized that the outreach was for everyone, without any party affiliation.

Also speaking, separately, some outreach recipients, Mr. Linus Iorchir, Mrs. Nguumbur Iorpasa Chia, Hilary Geri, among others, appreciated Mrs. Orubibi for the kind gesture and prayed to God to continue to bless and uplift her for do more for their community.

The beneficiaries also called on others to imitate such acts of philanthropy, to alleviate the many sufferings of people in rural communities.

At the Jato-Aka Primary Health Center, where the surgeries were performed, Mrs. Orubibi promised to donate maternity deliveries to the hospital. (NOPE)
